What Linnea Found

“Alright, Linnea. We’ve been jogging for nearly two kilometers and I still haven’t seen anything interesting. I’m beginning to think this is all an elaborate ruse to force me to go jogging with you.”

“If I wanted to trick someone into jogging with me, I’d pick someone better looking. And how can you say you don’t see anything interesting? Just look at this neighborhood! Look at all these gorgeous old 20th century homes!”

“Seriously, Paul! These houses are beautiful. I’d love to live in an old house like one of these. Look, some of them have fireplaces! And those windows, they open! And the vinyl siding! People don’t build houses like this these days, and more’s the pity!”

“You’re right, Linnea. I’m sorry. They are very nice houses. I can see that they’re special to you. So . . . thank you for sharing them with me.”

“That was the nicest thing you’ve ever said to me. And also one of the stupidest. I didn’t bring you out here to admire 20th century architecture. Now, come on, SPRINT!”

“Only a few more meters! Tell me when you see it!”

“What the . . . Oh my God . . . .”

“You didn’t expect to see a castle out here, did you? Not in broad daylight, at least.”

“No, not in . . . “

“. . . broad . . . .”

“Paul, no, stop!”

“Stop, no! Look at the door!”

“They have a force field!”

“Who in the private sector can afford a force field?

“Glad you asked. After I stumbled across this place yesterday, I did some research. According to the tax records I located, this property belongs to a group known only as . . . “

“The Paladins.”

“I thought you said you didn’t know anything about this castle!”

“I don’t.”

“Then how did you know the name of the group that owns it?”
